Well not really…but I was in a room with a bunch of NFL players that have contracts worth over $100 million combined. I didn’t think about it until afterwards, but I’ve come to two conclusions - athletes are overpaid, and I wouldn’t mind having that problem.
The scene is in Raleigh, NC, the party was the 30th birthday party for the wife of a certain NFL player (those who know me know who I’m talking about). It was an 80’s themed, invitation only event (I went as B.A. Baraccus - for the younger readers, that is the character Mr. T. played on the A-Team)
Now this wasn’t just a private section of a public club….the ENTIRE facility was rented for a Saturday night — including open bar all night, plus food, etc. I’m scared to even imagine the cost of this shin-dig.
So we’re enjoying ourselves - there are a ton of fat gold chains, adidas and Kangols dancing and having a fun - then, out comes Anthony Hamilton to sing for the birthday girl (come to find out they’re good friends). He did a nice 4 song set - and hung out for the rest of the night - really cool guy, he was going around talking to everybody. Then a certain Pro Bowl WR does a pretty hot beat box (while his wife raps) and they introduce the DJ for the evening - none other than D-Nice “The call me D-Nice”…he had the party rocking for the rest of the night…
So this is how the other half lives….I’m not mad — just waiting for my invitation to the next one!
Ok, so I don’t watch a ton of basketball, but I do like the whole March Madness deal. So I’m a little confused and concerned…why does March Madness not end until April 7th? It doesn’t even start until March 20th. If I were the month of April, I’d be ticked off — the championship is in my month, but I get no recognition whatsover! I smell a lawsuit coming - Case #539826 on the docket, The Month of April v. March Madness, the NCAA, et. al., the Honorable Judge February presiding.
Seriously, I guess it’s the same as what’s happening in the NFL, NCAA football, etc. - the longer you stretch the season out, the more advertising revenue you get. Look at NCAA football, some teams go 40+ days between their last game and their bowl game — “Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m proud to present your 2007 Champions” - in January of 2008 and the NFL champ is crowned in February of the following year.
Maybe it’s just me, but it’s all just plain false advertising! The only sport that hasn’t let me down is auto racing, where the 24 Hours at Daytona lasts…wait for it…24 hours! (Disclaimer: I’ve never seen the 24 Hours at Daytona — but it sounds good in this context!)
So go ahead and enjoy March Madness, but give a shout out to April - we all need love!
I didn’t think George Bush could win in 2004, but we all know what happened there. Let Karl Rove anywhere near and the politics will get so dirty, you’d have to take a shower after casting your vote! Even though the country is calling for change, I think there are enough die-hard Republicans around to make this extremely close - even if Barack wasn’t black and Hillary wasn’t a woman. The fact the the RNC sanctioned on of its own units for using the picture of Barack in muslim garb and spelling out his entire name (middle name Hussein) — they’ll do much worse during the general election!
If the primary season is any indication, this should be one of the highest voter turnouts ever. Question is … who are they going to turn out for?

So I’m sitting here watching the Memphis and Tennessee college basketball game…it’s a good game, but I don’t know who to cheer for because, well hey, it’s college basketball. I might as well be watching dog sledding. I guess I’m rooting for Tennessee because I like Bruce Pearl (I read a story about him on espn.com).
What I’ve come to realize is that while I’m an avid sports fan, the only team sport I really focus on is football. When football is over, I start thinking about the upcoming football season - and wondering how much Directv is going to jack up the price for NFL Sunday Ticket.
I’m more interested in the NFL Scouting Combine than I am with watching college basketball - my only caveat is Georgetown (but that’s a family reason)…but I don’t “have to” watch Georgetown…I can just look at the box score and be satisfied.
I do watch the Final Four, and I’ll watch golf (only when Tiger is playing), but that’s about it. I really don’t like watching the NBA on tv..but I’ve enjoyed the three live games I’ve been to this season (Bobcats vs Celtics, Pistons, Lakers). So I’ll continue to casually watch other sports, but I’m really just killing time waiting for the NFL draft, then minicamp, then traning camp, then preaseason, then finally the season!
Until then, go orange team!
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like Hillary always has that smirk on her face. She’s just lost 11 contests in a row, she might want to start crying again!
I’m actually enjoying the debate tonight, as Barack is really doing well - especially since the “pundits” are always saying that Hillary would wipe the floor with Barack during a debate.
The negativity that the Clinton campaign is bringing out is really getting on my nerves. Barack’s “silly season” comment really shut the door on her regarding borrowing lines from his national campaign co-chair.
